New Weirdos

Bio

New Weirdos is an indie rock band from Atlanta, Ga. that combines hummable pop songwriting with heartfelt lyrics. New Weirdos defies easy categorization but can best be described as a power pop band with a broad range of influences such as progressive rock, punk, disco, jazz and new wave.

At first, New Weirdos might appear to be nothing special, but listen closely and you’ll discover a band with a knack for songs that are catchy, yet surprisingly sophisticated and lyrics that are personal, yet universal. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself humming these songs later.

The band is anchored by singer-songwriter James Hunter, who’s always been the odd one out. Fat and gay, James never really fit in with his conservative, Catholic upbringing in suburban Peachtree City, Ga. James began writing and recording music in high school in the mid-2000s as an outlet for pent up frustrations, and it became a lifelong pursuit.

New Weirdos has undergone a number of lineup changes over the years, but the current lineup of bassist Charles Bryant, guitarist Christopher Kingsbury and longtime drummer Matt Hendler is the most promising yet.
