Protest The Hero

Hi, I’m Protest The Hero. I’ve been alive for 20 years now, and I finally have my own kitchen. I’m very excited about this, and generally excited by anything else that falls into the “cute” or “cozy” categories. I learned to play guitar when I was twelve fro m this guy named Ronnie who came over to fix my parents’ computer. I like quilts. But that’s probably because I’m always freezing cold. I LOVE Nashville. That’s where I live, when I’m lucky enough to be there. I love the town so much, I sometimes feel like I should just roll the windows down in my car (nicknamed the Toyoat. Because it’s a Toyota) and scream “I…

Veil Of Maya

Veil of Maya is an American deathcore band, formed in Oak Park, Illinois by members Marc Okubo and Sam Applebaum in 2004. The group is currently signed to sumerian records, have released four full-length studio albums, the latest being Eclipse, and are often considered to be a contributor in the “djent” scene. The name of the band is derived from the Cynic song of the same name. The band originally took use of multiple guitar players, but since 2007 Okubo has been the only guitarist the band employs.

Veil of Maya originally formed after melodic death metal band Insurrection broke-up, which led to members Marc Okubo (lead guitar) and Sam Applebaum (drums) to begin a new project.…

The Contortionist

Some bands follow established mores. Others may embrace disparate elements, but ultimately fail to break the confines of a particular subgenre context. And then there are bands that strip mine their initial reference points and methodically, organically and bravely create a multiverse of their own, a space where they are the only players.

The Contortionist is such a collective, achieving a coveted level of self-realization, creative execution and sophistication with their adventuresome, cosmos evoking progressive rock.

Sure, there are plenty of credible reasons The Contortionist is often associated with top-tier, critically embraced progressive death metal and mathcore groups…

STRUCTURES is a five piece progressive/hardcore band hailing from Toronto, Ontario. Having formed in early 2009, the band released a five song EP titled ‘ALL OF THE ABOVE’. STRUCTURES is a group of five talented musicians who strive to create ground breaking, earth shattering technical, melodic hardcore-metal. Starting to turn a lot of heads in the Canadian scene and quickly spreading to the US; STRUCTURES will surely be one of the next breakout metal bands of the year. The music STRUCTURES delivers demonstrates their diversity as a band as they shatter the listener’s psyche with pure aggression, but don’t be fooled, as they may also appear to slow time through their…

All change is growth. And Northlane’s monumental new album Node stands proudly as proof, because frontman Marcus Bridge, guitarists Jonathon Deiley and Josh Smith, bassist Alex Milovic and drummer Nic Pettersen have made the album Northlane always had in them, the songs they always strove for.

Node takes its cues as much from the band’s collective worldview as it does myriad artists from multiple generations. Rather than the existential examinations of their previous albums Discoveries and Singularity, the album takes a much more direct approach. It’s an album fuelled by passion and anger – passion for the world and all its wonders, and anger at what’s being…

Affiance (Bullet Tooth Records) is a Metal band born and raised in Rock City (Cleveland, OH). “Affiance”, meaning to betroth in trust and confidence, is a name that can be taken to heart as these guys have banded together and endured every trial a new band faces. Affiance kicked down doors, shattering expectations, and broke the mold of how metal “should” sound. Affiance is confident that they present a new breed of metal that is intense, with vocals that soar, and live performances that leave the harshest critics in awe.

The new Affiance album “The Campaign” has had a successful first week! Some great sales numbers have charted them at #7 Heatseekers, #7 Top New Artist,…

The Kindred

Ottawa, Canada’s progressive rock sextet The Kindred (formerly known as Today I Caught the Plague) is no stranger to the road or studio, DIY-ing themselves through a successfully self-financed full-length in 2011, which cultivated tours with bands such as Protest the Hero, The Devin Townsend Project, Periphery, The Faceless, Jeff Loomis and Scale the Summit. After leaving a trail of buzz from two back-to-back tours across the US, it was only a matter of days before the band would catch the attention of labels and management.

In February of 2013, the band made the trek 1,000+ miles to record with John Paul Peters (Propagandhi) at Private Ear Studios in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.…
