“Since forming way back in 2012, local foursome Wieuca has evolved from a messy, Pavement-aping slack-rock outfit to one of the coolest and most cohesive bands in town. Blending catchy vocal melodies with half-drunk guitar interplay and razor-sharp rhythms à la Parquet Courts, the group also flirts with anthemic Southern rock and jammy psychedelia. Wieuca’s sound has always been eclectic, even unfocused. What began in 2012 as an emotional alt-country outfit has gone through iterations of psychedelia, garage punk, shoegaze, southern rock, etc…disparate, but all under the general indie rock umbrella. With Local Celebrity, Wieuca incorporates more hip hop influences, pushing far outside the bounds of rock while retaining its esoteric core: psychedelic homespun recordings, confessional lyrics, and the earnest twang of a long day’s work. This is folk art in a post-J Dilla world.
