Shunkan

Bio

Shunkan is a ‘90s-inspired indie rock band formed by Los Angeles native and moody half-Japanese frontwoman Marina Sakimoto. Her music has been compared to the sounds of Liz Phair, Sonic Youth, Waxahatchee, and Hop Along. Sakimoto grew up in a mixed household of American and Japanese cultures in Southern California. Her heritage, affinity to both cultures, and sense of misplacement led her to work with feelings of isolation and introspection.
Shunkan’s first EP Honey, Milk and Blood and debut album The Pink Noise were covered and highly reviewed by significant media publications such as The Guardian, NME, Noisey, Spin, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, and others alike. In 2019, she has released singles “Little Hell”, “Mornings In The Afterlife”, and “Bloody Winter”. Her sophomore album Cumberland Falls will be released September 13th, 2019.
