GRUDGESTEP
Bio
Atlanta-based band GRUDGESTEP can be described as “Alt Metal’s old school crush on Hardcore,” a plethora of heavy guitar riffs, driving drums, and intricate bass lines, all topped with powerhouse vocals and melancholy storytelling.
The band originally broke out into the music scene under the quirky moniker “That Pokey,” a project formed in 2019 with four original members, but changed the name after becoming a concrete three piece and evolving their music into something more haunting and heavy.
“We wrote a lot of songs together before we clinched our sound, because we love all kinds of music and were constantly coming up with different ideas,” explains Kellie (singer/guitarist).
Having always been based in the rock genre, it became important for the members to further define the band and what it meant to them personally.
“GRUDGESTEP is about brutal honesty. It delves into having sadness but also being hopeful; not letting that sadness drag you under, fighting back, staying grounded, and putting in the work to make your life worth living, with a little bit of dark humor thrown in on occasion.”
Laughter is truly the best medicine.
